New Look

September 16, 2007

One of my goals this fall is to learn more about web page design. I've invested in several books and am beginning to work through them. I'm not ready to head back to school yet, so I've set up my own University of Life, Department of Self-Paced Studies. I think I'll fit in just fine, since I know the Dean of Students pretty well. ;o)

This new look is just a practice run. I am learning to expand on the drag and drop capabilities of blogger and start changing the html of my blog. There may be other changes before I'm satisfied. I am working on changing the font and placement of the title and description so it is easier to read among the leaves and sunbeams. My larger goal is to set up a professional knitting web site by next summer that will have my teaching information, my credentials, and possibly the capability to purchase and download my patterns. Hopefully I will be able to transfer my knitting blog to it as well. I am researching hosting, cart options, and a whole bunch of other things. It is quite overwhelming at this point, but I feel confident I can learn this world. I like computers, I like graphic design, and I have a knack for learning things on my own.

  1. Your new page looks great! I'm so impressed that you're teaching yourself all this computer stuff. You're making me feel guilty as I sit here eating my Velveeta cheese and watching the Emmys. Maybe I'll teach myself something new next week...

  5. Cheers to you! I want to be all self modivated like that, but I can't seem to "find the time"... humm it seems to be a vicious circle, how does one who is not self modivated, motivate ones self to be motivated? LOL Well I'll keep triing one day it ought to work. Thanks for the inspiration.

  8. I'm with you there! I took a class in HTML and a little java-type stuff in college, so I know the basics, but here is my husband who does it for a living, so I sadly just give up and make him do it for me. The good news is, I know what's possible and then I say, "do this." He's just so much faster and I don't have to get out my notes. It's really like learning a different language. But boy does it help to be able to read the code when there's a problem!!

  10. i love the new design. it's very soothing and clear. and i didn't understand half the terms you used in that last paragraph, so you must be learning something - or i'm just woefully behind in my technological skills! :)

  11. Sounds like a wonderful plan. Can't wait to see what you come up with. :) Maybe after I finishmy bachelor's degree (via BYU's Independant Study program), I'll take up grappling with html. For now, I'm a "drag and drop" gal. Although I did figure out enough to make my header exactly how I wanted, but that was kinda cheating, since I just made a picture including my title and put it in place of the blogger-supplied title. Anyway, good luck with all that. It'll be fun to see how your page changes. :)
